“At the end of my life, with just one breath left,
if you come, I’ll sit up and sing.”
Rumi
There is no such thing as an easy goodbye, even when one knows that it is time. We have had a quiet week at the ranch; reflecting on all of the beautiful memories, and mourning the loss of one of our dearest friends, Moonlight.
He came to us out of the darkness, one quiet moonlit night, our beautiful old Shepherd. He moved into the ranch with the easy grace of a lion, and completely of his own accord became protector of the horses and warden of the pasture… always keeping a watchful eye over us all.
I see him there still, in the pasture, lying in the cool leafy shade.
“May the wind under your wings bear you where the sun sails
and the moon walks.”
J.R.R Tolkien

I can barely type right now as I can’t see the screen through all of my tears for your loss. I am so saddened to hear that Moonlight went to Heaven. Words cannot express how much this has affected me, and I am sure you as well. You are in my thoughts today. It is hard to say goodbye to such a wonderful companion and loyal friend. What a blessing that Moonlight found the ranch and that you were able to share in one another’s lives. Your tribute and photographs are so loving.
My thoughts are with you! A wonderful tribute to a fellow traveller…
“Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate
And though I oft have passed them by
A day will come at last when I
Shall take the hidden paths that run
West of the Moon, East of the Sun.”
― J.R.R. Tolkien

So sorry. He was lucky to have been loved by you and you by him.

Howl…no-one will know you’re crying…but I am…for your heartache and your tribute – so beautiful…a heartfelt tribute to a wonderful companion…he walked in in the moonlight and it would seem padded out around the time of the New Moon, under the cool calm of a darkened moon…the the reflections of the New Moon calling him home, embracing him in the soft touch of the moon wolves…leading him lovingly home to his destiny but watching over you still as your guardian and your friend. I send you the healing peace of the tranquillity of the New Moon…and much love and hugs to you as ride the pain of loss… Hugs and howls…Wolfie x RIP Moonlight.
